Description Edit | History

Power Grid is the updated release of the Friedemann Friese crayon game Funkenschlag. It removes the crayon aspect from network building in the original edition, while retaining the fluctuating commodities market like McMulti and an auction round intensity reminiscent of The Princes of Florence.

The object of Power Grid is to supply the most cities with power when someone's network gains a predetermined size. In this new edition, players mark pre-existing routes between cities for connection, and then bid against each other to purchase the power plants that they use to power their cities.

However, as plants are purchased, newer, more efficient plants become available, so by merely purchasing, you're potentially allowing others access to superior equipment.

Additionally, players must acquire the raw materials (coal, oil, garbage, and uranium) needed to power said plants (except for the 'renewable' windfarm/ solar plants, which require no fuel), making it a constant struggle to upgrade your plants for maximum efficiency while still retaining enough wealth to quickly expand your network to get the cheapest routes.

Power Grid FAQ
Power Grid FAQ - Please read this before posting a rules question! Many questions are asked over and over in the forums.

This entry is for the original Power Grid; for the new French printing by Filosofia, go to Mégawatts.

The expansions Power Grid: France/Italy, Power Grid: Benelux/Central Europe, Power Grid: China/Korea, Power Grid: Brazil/Spain & Portugal and Power Grid: Russia & Japan include new double-sided game boards. These change the game by not only changing the characteristics of the geography, but also by changing the rules for power plant availability, resource availability, tying plant ownership and/or resource availability and/or price to geographic regions on the map, etc.

The EnBW and Mégawatts editions are the same base game bundled with different boards (Baden-Württemberg/Germany and Québec/France respectively.) The Baden-Württemberg and Québec maps are not available separately, nor is the USA/Germany map (provided as part of the base game) available separately to owners of those editions.

9 Energy Crisis: A full Expansion Deck - Print & Play Cards
The Energy Crisis Expansion utilizes a complete new deck and rules which modify the behavior of the old deck. Each power-plant operates slightly differently. This is designed to both simulate how the plant works in “real life” and to make game decisions more exciting and interesting. Overall, the goal of Energy Crisis is to keep the game dynamic and prevent “analysis paralysis” by introducing new variables and decisions that cannot be as readily predicted and at the same time, not introducing a large luck factor. This File Contains: Energy Crisis Deck: A complete 42 card deck to expand and supplement your current deck(s) 6 New Plant types (4 each); 6 Special Cards; 12 Event cards

11 Energy Crisis: A full Expansion Deck - Rule Book
Revised, updated and clarified rules from my previous posting. This File Contains: 1) Energy Crisis Rules: Detailed rules with examples and reasoning to use your new expansion deck 2) Color Summary Sheet: Single page printout to summarize this manual

6 Modified rules for a Fun 1-3 player game
While the Standard 4-6 player rules make for a fun and exciting game, the 2 & 3 player rules can be quite dull. There is virtually no competition after Steps 2 & 3 respectively and plant bidding is unexciting as players often just pay face value. With these rules the 2 & 3 player game maintains the excitement and competitiveness of the larger games. The 1 player rules, are modified from “GameRulesforOne” http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/390207/soloplay-variant-for-power-grid-is-available integrating the modified 2 & 3 player rules and simplified in some ways in that you are playing “the board” rather than an “AI.”

9 Stand for Major Sholto's card holder
This is a template for a foamcore stand for Major Sholto's awesome Power Grid card holder. The stand easily disassembles to fit in the game box. It's sized to print on two pieces of 8.5 x 11" paper. Enjoy! You can see pictures of the stand here: http://boardgamegeek.com/image/642733/mvettemagred http://boardgamegeek.com/image/642735/mvettemagred
